| Children's Town was established 60 years ago by Rabbi Menachem Porush, a
former member of the Israeli Parlament, as the Children's Day Nurseries. Children's Town
could fill many chapters of history with its great achievements, such as taking in the
many children who escaped from the Holocaust, bridging the gap between children from North
African and European backgrounds, and providing a warm, secure home for these homeless and
tragedy-stricken youngsters.
Children's Town was built as a continuation of the exceptionally successful activities of Children's Day Nurseries, whose activities date back to the time when we had to fight Christian missionaries who were active in taking away Jewish children from broken families. The network of Children's Day Nurseries, which is spread over various locations, has saved hundreds of children for Judaism. They take care of about 1,000 children. The Board of Directors of Children's Day Nurseries and Children's Town have now decided to concentrate on saving children from Russia. With the same enthusiasm that Children's Day Nurseries and Children's Town saved child survivors of W.W.II who were in the DP camps and later children from North African countries, the staff is working with these Russian children, together with the "Shuvu" Organization. The wonderful cooperation between the "Shuvu" Organization and Children's Town is a blessing. |
